East Block
Clove - Patchouli - Lemongrass
100% soy wax candle with essential oils
You walk through a dimly lit hall way with a piece of paper in hand. You come to an office at the end of the hall, the door is open. The office is empty, but you step in gingerly to leave the paper on the large partners desk already covered in books and scattered bits of paper. You shiver from the chill in the large room, but marvel at its décor. An ornate green carpet covers the floor and large crown molding adorns the place where the wall meets the ceiling. You back out of the room and make your way to your next task.

History
Designed by Thomas Stent and Augustus Laver, the East Block is constructed in the Victorian High Gothic style.
On May 7, 1859, the Department of Public Works issued a call for architects to submit proposals for the new parliament buildings to be built on Barrack Hill, receiving 298 drawings in response. After narrowing the entries down to three finalists, then-Governor General Sir Edmund Walker Head was asked to break the tie, and the winning design was announced on August 29. Construction of the East Block began by the end of 1859 and was completed in 1866.
The East Block served as the office for the governor general and the offices for all Cabinet ministers. It was immediately occupied by Viscount Monck and his prime minister, John A. Macdonald, who used the room in the southwest corner of the second floor. This same room was later utilized by Lester B. Pearson during his time as Secretary for External Affairs. George-Étienne Cartier held an office at the northern end of the west wing, which was subsequently used by every prime minister until Pierre Trudeau. The Queen's Privy Council chamber hosted cabinet meetings for 105 years and was the site where the British North America Act of 1867 was formulated, decisions regarding the Red River Resistance were made, and Canada's military involvement was orchestrated.
